Hotels While On Tour

Chiang Mai

Nestled amongst forested foothills, Chiang Mai is much older than it first appears. During the city’s medieval heyday, almost everything was made of teak hauled by elephant from the surrounding rainforest, with the notable exception of its towering wát. The monasteries still remain, centred on ancient brick chedi (stupas) in a remarkable range of shapes and styles, but the gaps between them have been filled in with modern Thai houses and traveller hotels. Despite this, the historic centre of Chiang Mai still feels overwhelmingly residential, more like a sleepy country town than a bustling capital.

A sprawling modern city has grown up around ancient Chiang Mai, ringed by a tangle of superhighways, but if you drive in a straight line in any direction, you’ll soon find yourself in the lush green countryside of northern Thailand. A short ride by motorcycle will deliver you to pristine rainforest reserves, churning waterfalls, serene forest wát,bubbling hot springs and peaceful country villages – as well as a host of adventure camps, elephant sanctuaries and souvenir markets.

Wangburapa Grand Hotel

The WanBurapa Hotel is situated in the SE corner of the old city and so is extremely handy for all of central Chiang Mai attractions, all within easy walking distances (or a tut tut)!
Hotel is clean, simple, nice pool, ample safe parking for the bikes and Staff were very helpful.

Pai

Set in a particularly picturesque valley North of Chiang Mai, Pai is a predominantly tourism-oriented town, offering a relaxed atmosphere with a broad tourist and pretty serious backpacker scene. The town’s permanent residents are a seemingly harmonious mix of Western hippies, Thai rastas, and muslims (there is a big mosque in the center of town) which gives the place a unique vibe which may be appealing to some, even if it isn’t traditional.

Pichai Guesthouse

A cozy ten room guest house nestled behind a Thai Restaurant within a 2 min walk to walking street. Each room has private bathroom and A/C with queen size beds and singles available. Tea and coffee 24 hours, laundry service if need on site. Parking of bikes are at the front door for easy unloading.

The Sylvana Pai Boutique Resort

Very nice simple place to stay while in Pai right off a main market street. Nice pool, big rooms, off street parking for the bikes, Wifi is good and many places for dinner, drinks only walking distance away.

Mae Chaem

Mae Chaem, a two and a half hour road ride from the city of Chiang Mai has recently become a well known destination for tourists for its preservation of old culture and maintenance of local lifestyles. It is home to artists, artisans and traditional Lanna ways. Nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains including the highest in the land, Doi Inthanon, the ride to Mae Chaem itself is worth making the trip.

Baan Kub Doi Mae Chaem

Kwan-lah Homestay

A wonderfully place owned by a great young Thai family.

Spent a really nice time with the lovely family that owns the guesthouse the place is very authentic, the owners are super nice and interested in talking to my guests and they speak great English. The breakfast is home cooked either Western or Thai. Highly recommended! 🙂

 Mae Sariang

The small district town of Mae Sariang  sits in a picturesque location on a largely undeveloped riverside, surrounded by forested hills and paddy-filled valleys. The town still possesses plenty of old teak buildings, a handful of Burmese/Shan-style wats and it’s just a great glimpse of traditional, small-town Thailand.

Above The Sea Resort

Above the Sea is a wonderful place to stay, all rooms are overlooking the pool. It’s a light, modern, spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished. The beds are good, the shower room was well laid out and there is soap, shampoo, conditioner, Clean towels and extra water are supplied each day. A choice of breakfast is included. The owner speaks excellent English and is very helpful. The guest house is across the road from the river and some lively bars and restaurants. I Highly Recommend staying here.

Mae La Noi

Mae La Noi remains very traditional. Most of the population here are Shan, Lawa, or Karen Hilltribe. The town is very small with a market, ATM, hospital, post office. Most people pass through this town on the way from Mae Sariang to Mae Hong Son. The most famous thing about Mae La Noi is the Kaew Komol cave, an ancient calcite crystal cave.

Herntai Resort

Looking for a place to unwind, Herntai Resort is the place to be. Thai hospitality in a very beautiful setting is what will make our stay a great success. Friendly staff is ready to fulfill your wishes and tries their best in English.
The rooms are clean, sheets are fresh and the view of the rice paddies is priceless. During the night it is quiet.
The Restaurant attached to Herntai only serves Thai food, which is well prepared and very tasty.

Khun Yuam

The small market town of  Khun Yuam Iies around half way between Mae Hong Son and Mae Sariang and services the surrounding villages in the Yuam river valley. It can get quite busy in the mornings, especially on market day as Hmong, Karen and even the rarely encountered Lawa people from the hills come into town to sell or buy goods. It’s in this part of Mae Hong Son province that certain hills turn bright yellow in November and December as wild flowers come into bloom for the Bua Tong Sunflower Festival, which is what puts Khun Yuam on the map for domestic tourists, at least. If you’re in the area then the spectacular Mae Surin Waterfall in the nearby national park of the same name is worth a trip.

Mae Hong Son

The city of Mae Hong Son is the seat of one of the most beautiful provinces in Thailand, a rugged northern area where you’ll find a blend of Thai and Burmese culture and some of the most stunning landscapes you’ll see in the country. Mae Hong Son township is known for its dense forests and mist-shrouded valley and lies in the mountainous border region between Thailand and Burma. The province can easily be reached from Chiang Mai the most prominent city in northern Thailand.

 Piya Guesthouse

A relazing small guesthouse with comfortable rooms, private bathroom and during the hotter months a clean swimming pool for relaxation.
